Gismatrix System Requirements

Supported Browsers

Gismatrix is designed as a Progressive Web App (PWA) and requires modern web technologies to function. For proper operation, we recommend using the latest version of one of the following browsers:

Web Browsers

• Google Chrome (desktop and mobile)
• Microsoft Edge
• Safari 17.4 or newer (macOS, iOS, iPadOS)
• Opera (desktop and mobile, Chromium-based)
• Brave
• Firefox 145 or newer. To use all functionalities of the Gismatrix application and for a better PWA user experience, please install the "Progressive Web Apps for Firefox" extension
• Samsung Browser

• Outdated or non-Chromium browsers

These browsers do not support all required APIs or have known issues with PWA functionalities.

Supported Operating Systems

Since the application primarily checks for browser capabilities rather than version numbers, it runs on operating systems that can run the modern browsers listed above. This typically includes:

• Windows 10 or newer
• macOS Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma
• iOS / iPadOS 17.4 or newer
• Android 8 (Oreo) or newer
• Linux distributions with modern Chromium support, such as:
• Ubuntu 18.04+
• Debian 10+
• openSUSE 15.5+
• Fedora 39+
• (A processor with SSE3 support is required)

Older systems may work if the browser supports all required functionalities, but we cannot guarantee this.

Offline-first Design

Gismatrix is designed on an offline-first principle, meaning it stores large amounts of GIS data in the device's local storage for fast and reliable performance. Data is downloaded once and then automatically synchronizes in the background.

Since private/incognito browsing mode clears local storage upon each launch, Gismatrix cannot operate in private mode. In this mode, data would be repeatedly deleted and downloaded upon each launch, preventing normal use.

Recommended Device Performance

Gismatrix processes and renders cartographic data directly on the device.

For the best user experience, we recommend:

• modern high-performance phones, tablets, or desktop computers
• devices with a powerful processor and sufficient RAM
• graphics units that enable smooth WebGL rendering

Slowdowns may occur when processing large datasets on older or less powerful devices.

PWA Application Installation

The application is available as a PWA, which allows:

• installation directly from the browser
• operation similar to a classic application
• support for offline work
• automatic updates

Installation is possible in supported browsers:

• Chrome / Edge: Menu → Install app
• Safari (iOS/iPadOS/macOS):Share → Add to Home Screen

Additional Information

• The application checks for the presence of required functionalities, not browser or operating system version numbers.
• If your browser does not support any of the key APIs, you will receive a notification with instructions to change your browser.
• For the best experience, we recommend regularly updating your browser.
